Zakia Driouich
Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries
With a Master’s degree in Industrial Pharmacy and Biopharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Paris XI University (France) and a degree in Industrial Biotechnology Engineering from the Institut Supérieur Industriel Liégeois (Belgium), she began her career in 1988 at CIRIC France. She then joined the Ministry of Maritime Fisheries and Merchant Shipping, where she held several positions of increasing responsibility before being appointed Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries in October 2024.
Her career has been marked by major achievements in the fisheries sector, including the development of key resource management plans, the modernisation of the fishing fleet, the introduction of the vessel monitoring system (VMS) and the implementation of the Halieutis strategy. Highly committed to international issues, she has played an active role in numerous bodies, including ICCAT, FAO and ACCOBAMS, which she chaired, while participating in fisheries agreement negotiations and work related to the quality and productivity of the sector.
