Miriam Catarina Roquel Chávez is Guatemala’s Minister of Labour and Social Welfare. She is a lawyer and notary public, and holds a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law and another in Human Rights. She has extensive experience in promoting and defending human rights, particularly those of women and indigenous peoples, having served as Public Defender, Deputy Human Rights Ombudsman and university lecturer. Since taking office, she has promoted the strengthening of labour and social policies, with an emphasis on protecting the most vulnerable populations and preventing and eradicating child labour.
