Mrs Fahmida Akhtar has been working as an Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of Bangladesh since 2023. With over 30 years of experience as a government official, her current responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Bangladesh labour laws, upholding labour rights and dignity, and maintaining harmonious industrial relations at the national level. She chaired the Tripartite Labour Law Review Committee (TLRC), which was responsible for introducing a series of major reforms to align prevailing labour standards with ILO conventions.

She earned a first master’s degree in Economics and a second master’s degree in Developmental Economics. Besides numerous management training courses here and abroad, she has participated in various programmes and workshops on Leadership Development, Public Policy Analysis, and Development Administration. Moreover, she has visited several countries, including the USA, South Korea, India, Vietnam, Australia, China, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, as a government representative.
