Amanuel Mehari is the Chief of Migrant Protection at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He oversees IOM’s global migrant protection portfolio, guiding policy, programming, and partnership efforts to strengthen assistance and protection for migrants in vulnerable situations. He brings extensive experience from various IOM and UN roles across Africa, the Middle East, and global headquarters, where he has worked on humanitarian coordination, mixed migration, crisis response, and protection systems‑strengthening. His work over the years has focused on advancing safe, rights‑based approaches for migrants and displaced populations, with a particular emphasis on children and other at‑risk groups.
