This side-event focuses on the intersection between child trafficking, migration and child labour. It draws on a recommendation from the IOM and Harvard University research on child trafficking, analysing 20 years of IOM child trafficking data, which recommends the need “…to better understand the complexities and to improve the complementarity of responses” between child trafficking, migration and child labour.
The side event will focus on global commitments and perspectives and will present to findings and recommendations from the IOM-Harvard study, draw on regional dynamics (including the importance of a routes-based approach), as well as country-level examples.
The 6th GCCL is an opportune moment to explore this interconnection, with two prominent global events taking place in 2026: the International Migration Review Forum and the GCCL.
